Dust whirling like a big cloud in the air and people dancing and thanking God with their whole spirit, soul and body.
We are in Jeldo Ethiopia, far out in the bush. It is like going back centuries in time. We have not seen a private car all week. When darkness falls it's pitch black in the entire area, except some kerosene lights.
Here are donkeys (who have their own parking-lot just outside the market square), goats, chickens and horses. The roads are bad, without a jeep any car had crashed its undercarriage. It’s dirty, dusty and wonderfully blessed to be here.
The circumstances are truly exceptional and extremely primitive. But what does it matter! We're here to preach the gospel! We are here to do what Jesus asked us to do in Matthew 28; “Go into all the world and proclaim to all that Jesus came to earth to save men and to open a way back to God for all eternity”. This burns in us when we get to areas such as these.
Even the first evening, it was almost an explosive anticipation in the air. The people cried out to God for forgiveness of sin! God's great miracle power begins to manifest itself and then people testify about how God healed them. Already on the second evening is about 30.000 people gathered in the ground, amazing people! The crowds increased dramatically through the days.
We had pastors and leaders seminar during daytime. The focus here was getting the vision Jesus gave us; go into all the world and the Holy Spirit will come upon us once again to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria and throughout the world. It's easy for us to get caught up in Jerusalem. It’s comfortable and safe there. But God wants to send us to Samaria, where we may not feel so secure and then to the ends of the earth. The Holy Spirit came for this.
The receptiveness among the pastors was overwhelming! We ended the first day with a strong prayer. The Spirit of God swept over the room, which was completely packed with hungry people and there was at least as many people outside. It is difficult to explain in words the experience of this, you feel completely overwhelmed of God and everything he does.
More information about our recent trip to Ethiopia!
Hunger for God was very evident this week. Even the first evening it was such an expectation in the air, people literally took the gospel with force! The heaven is open where there is expectation and hunger!
A woman named Amena, whose legs were totally paralyzed, rose and walked! She didn’t just walk but she danced on stage, completely healed! The people cried out with joy because of what Jesus did!
The rumours about Jesus spread throughout the area.
The second evening we felt as if we were in the middle of the Gospels! There were salvations, deliverance and miracles everywhere! The people stood for hours waiting for the meetings to start.
On Saturday afternoon, we had to schedule a special meeting because nearly 40.000 were in the hot sun waiting. Everywhere on the ground people turned to God and received salvation. After the meeting Saturday night, people didn’t want to go home. The pastors made their churches available for people to stay overnight and asked those who lived in the city to open their huts to all who came from afar. Underneath the scene our employees found about 150 people who were sleeping and waiting for Sunday's meeting.
People had to walk up to 70 km one way to participate. They led and carried sick people in very primitive and dusty roads, because they wanted to meet Jesus!
There is so much more to tell, but what have caught us, is the huge expectations they had for God. We need to have more of this at home. When we have expectations and hunger for God in our hearts, it is possible for him to come with his love and power.
We have realized that we need to take advantage of this openness, which we see in Ethiopia right now. New campaigns have already been scheduled in 2011.
Thank You so much for your effort in world evangelization! We are all needed in the great mission that God has given us!
